How to Measure AI Search Visibility in the UAE Without Inventing an AEO Score

AI-search visibility matters, but the market is filling with proprietary “AEO scores” that look precise without revealing what they measure. No outside agency or tool has access to the internal ranking systems of Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or other answer engines. A useful measurement framework must therefore distinguish platform evidence from controlled observation.

Start with what Google officially says

Google's current guidance says that established SEO fundamentals still apply to generative AI experiences in Search. Pages need to be crawlable, indexable, useful, technically accessible, and eligible to appear with a snippet. Google also warns that satisfying the requirements does not guarantee crawling, indexing, ranking, or inclusion in an AI answer.

That distinction should shape your reporting. The goal is not to manufacture a universal AI score. The goal is to collect several kinds of evidence that, together, show whether the brand is becoming easier to discover and trust.

The five-layer AI visibility framework

1. Search eligibility

Confirm that priority pages return a successful status, allow crawling, use the intended canonical URL, and can be indexed. Check submitted sitemaps and URL status in Google Search Console. Without eligibility, citation tactics are premature.

2. Topic coverage and entity clarity

Map the questions a serious buyer asks before purchase: definitions, comparisons, costs, risks, implementation, evidence, and provider selection. Each important page should clearly identify the organization, author or reviewer, service, audience, market, and next action. Structured data can reinforce this information, but it cannot repair vague or unsupported content.

3. Traditional search performance

Track non-brand impressions, clicks, average position, landing pages, query clusters, and conversions in Search Console and analytics. Google states that generative AI search remains rooted in its core search systems, so ordinary search evidence remains valuable.

4. Answer-engine observation

Create a fixed list of representative prompts and test them on a schedule. Record whether your brand is mentioned, whether a page is cited, the citation URL, the surrounding claim, and the date. Use clean sessions where practical and do not treat one personalized response as a market-wide ranking.

5. Commercial impact

Measure referral sessions from AI assistants where identifiable, assisted conversions, branded-search lift, qualified enquiries, and sales conversations that mention AI discovery. Visibility without qualified action may still be useful for awareness, but it should not be reported as revenue.

A repeatable UAE query set

Your prompt set should reflect real buying contexts rather than vanity queries. A Dubai B2B company might monitor:

  • Who provides [service] in Dubai for [industry]?
  • What does [service] cost in the UAE?
  • How should a UAE company evaluate [solution]?
  • What are the risks of implementing [technology] in the UAE?
  • Which approach is better for [use case]: option A or option B?

Keep the wording and testing conditions stable enough to compare over time. Add Arabic variants only when the Arabic pages genuinely answer them.

What to report each month

  • Index status for priority commercial and supporting pages.
  • Search Console performance by topic cluster, not only by individual keyword.
  • Observed citation share across the fixed prompt set, with screenshots or exported evidence.
  • New referring domains and expert mentions where relevant.
  • AI-assistant referral traffic that analytics can identify.
  • Qualified conversions and sales feedback connected to those landing pages.
  • Content changes, technical changes, and the date of each change.

Why a single AEO score is misleading

A composite score can be a useful internal checklist, but it should never be presented as an official platform metric. It may combine technical accessibility, structured data, authorship, citations, content depth, or conversion signals. Those inputs are not the same thing as being recommended by an AI system.

If a tool shows a score, ask for the formula, evidence source, crawl date, and limitations. Our own AI Website Grader deliberately labels Lighthouse-derived metrics separately from Asif Digital's public-page checks for this reason.

How to improve visibility responsibly

  1. Fix crawl, canonical, mobile, speed, and indexing problems.
  2. Build one strong commercial page for each real service and audience.
  3. Publish supporting articles that answer the buyer's next questions with original experience.
  4. Add clear authorship, review dates, source links, case evidence, and limitations.
  5. Link supporting articles to the relevant commercial page with natural anchor text.
  6. Update articles when platform guidance, facts, or your service changes.

Sources and methodology

The framework follows Google Search Central's official guidance for generative AI features and its guidance on using generative AI content. Google explicitly recommends useful, original material and warns against scaled content that adds little value.

Next step

AI visibility is an evidence programme, not a one-time schema installation. If you need a crawlable content architecture, repeatable measurement set, and commercially useful editorial plan, review our SEO and AI-search visibility service or request a search systems review.
